For the majority of Americans these are a necessary thing to have in order to keep roofs over our heads, clothes on our backs, and food in our stomachs. It seems that these days, employees are working well over the expected forty hours a week, which leaves little time to go out and meet that someone special. Is it any wonder then that most coworkers are finding themselves involved in an office romance? According to recent studies, 48% of employees admit to being involved in an office romance at some point in their careers (Voo). Several studies indicate that a high percentage of employees have been involved in an office romance at some point in their careers (Neff). While there are fears amongst companies†¦show more content†¦Job Performance Having your partner around the office can even increase your work performance. Experts indicate that once working couples get past the infatuation stage of their romance, their romance can actually benefit the company. An office romance tends to raise workers’ morale, enhance creativity, stimulate performance, and boost productivity (Hughes). If the relationship turns into a serious and committed one, companies can gain happier and loyal employees. Companies’ Fears Looking at all of the advantages of office romances, what do companies have to fear about? Unfortunately not all romances lead to the fairy tale ending and it is those instances of office romances turned sour that keep companies in constant fear of tense work environments which may lead to legal ramifications. In most cases, employees are able to put aside their personal feelings and deal with their jobs and each other in a professional manner. Others find the personal rejection a little harder to swallow and it is then that companies have to beware of sexual harassment claims (Loftus). That is just one of the many problems companies have to be aware of. Other danger spots companies need to be aware of are subordinates dating supervisors and extramarital affairs (Loftus).
